Some of their stuff in the early 2000s were fine. Those releases are long out of print, hopefully in the future the series gets rescue licensed and re-released with proper restoration on blu-ray! Along with the rest of their catalog titles left to die - Kite, Iria, etc. Not so professional and the prices they were asking for them back then were outright theft. I know media blasters was a poor company back then but still.the way they released that felt cheap, half assed, and and completely rushed. Must've been on a tight schedule with a small budget. Luckily after episode 8 the animation and transfer quality increase drastically and same goes for the 2nd season box-set, So at least they didn't completely screw us over. its almost as if Media Blasters took the transfer from a crappy vhs tape and dragged it through the mud. I swear the first 8 episodes on that Kenshin season 1 box-set have the worst bootleg quality I have ever seen. Look the Kenshin TV box-sets they released. It's probably a good thing I'm keeping the DVD because in addition to the missing scene being there, it's the full 2-episodes rather than a mostly uncut "movie" like it is on this BD.Īlso here's how the Japanese release fared, as in, not well at all.Media Blasters has always been a broke company. The clip Glorian mentioned is indeed missing here but all other scenes are intact (including the one that was cut from their old "Director's Cut" DVD). The BD is basically an "uncut" version of their "movie" cut since the credits for the end of episode 1 and red on-screen text in the beginning of episode 2 are missing, has their shorter "Kite" video logo in the beginning rather than the slightly longer "A Kite" that's on the DVD and the end of "film" credits are English-only. All 2.0 & 5.1 audio options are DTS-HD on the Edited BD while the Uncut BD has the 2.0 options as Linear PCM and 5.1 as Dolby Digital. The edited BD was a AVC encode while the uncut version is MPEG-2 (no surprise considering Ladies Vs. Very late post but I picked up the Uncut Blu-ray recently and I watched this last night on my PS3 & my Uncut DVD on my PC at the same time while looking through my Edited BD afterwards so I can confirm a few things. Other than that issue, this seems like the best version of Kite available on HD worldwide definitely better than the edited Kite BD, and better than the Japanese BD of Kite as well (which was completely an upscale from composite masters, and censored on top of it). Not sure what the deal is with that materials issue? Mistake? Licensor requirement? To be clear: the scene is the same length, no dialog or audio is missing (you can hear the girl's moaning, as well), you just don't see those five seconds of the girl - the camera's on Akai's face for 5 seconds longer. However, on the Kitty Media BD, you'll see Kanie on the phone, then the camera switches to Akai's face five seconds earlier you never see the 5 second shot of the girl. Around the 34 minute mark or so, there's a scene where Kanie is on the phone you'll see Kanie's face, then for five seconds or so you'll see Akai getting some "attention" from a girl, then the camera switches to a closeup of Akai's face. So far as I can tell, the release is mostly uncut, BUT there is one thing missing/changed. The only other upscaled adult section I noticed was during the last sex scene with Sawa the majority of the scene is HD, but upscaled shots pop in throughout the scene. The adult scenes were mainly true HD, although the extremely brief scene around the start of episode 2 when Sawa was falling (with the random office employees) is clearly upscaled not surprising, since that part of the episode seems to be something of a mess in general. The materials for that part must have been a mess it switches back and forth between true HD and upscale throughout that section. Maybe 4 minutes worth in all, the vast majority of which seemed to be in episode 2 a decent chunk of it was around when Sawa falls from the building during the start of episode 2. There were sections that were obvious upscales of a composite master those parts didn't look so great, and were pretty easy to pick out. The majority of Kite was in true HD, and it looked very clean with vivid colors. Note that I am not a videophile, so if you're looking for a discussion on bitrate, black crush, etc, then I'm not your guy. Okay, I just finished watching the Kitty Media "Kite Uncut" release, and since I haven't seen any other comments on it, I thought I'd throw out my impressions.
